    TOPIC: THE FLIGHT OF RICHES

    BIBLE TEXT:
“Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven” (Proverbs 23:5).

An Oxford socialite, Margot Asquith wrote, “Rich men’s homes are seldom beautiful, rarely comfortable and never original. It is a constant source of surprise to people of moderate means to observe how little a big fortune contributes to beauty.” It aptly describes the emptiness of riches. Our text describes the sudden sad tale of riches when it flies away like a vapour in the rising morning sun. Many world richest men become paupers before death.

Ungodly youths pre-occupy themselves with thoughts and pursuit of fame, honour, money, money and money. They neglect their souls’ salvation and fear of God. Their quest for wealth has led some to vices such as: trafficking in drugs, cybercrime and armed robbery. These could lead to imprisonment and early death.

“For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out” (I Timothy 6:7). Be warned of the love of riches. Godliness with contentment is the true riches now and in eternity.

Challenge: No profit in riches without righteousness.
Prayer: Keep me oh God, from a life of regrets, in Jesus’ name.
Quote: Be warned of the love of riches
Bible Reading in one Year: I Timothy 6:5-11
