    THE POWER OF PURITY

    Scripture Reading: Matthew 5: 8

St. Francis De Sales said that “Chastity is the lily of virtues, and makes men almost equal to angels. Now the purity of man is chastity, which is called honesty, and the observance of it, honour and integrity; and it contrary is called corruption; in short it has this peculiar excellence above other virtues, that it preserves both soul and body fair and unspotted”

Beloved in Christ, we are living in a time when impurities and sins are exalted and celebrated. Imagine this dirty post, “Virginity is never a virtue but lack of opportunities. However, Jesus while teaching people about what it means to be a Christian told them, “Blessed are the pure in Heart, for they shall see God”. The word blessed can mean, happy, joyful and glorious.

What it means is that if you have purity as your priority, you blessed because you will see God. Seeing God is not when you die alone but here on earth; and can say “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want”.

Among the Jews, one is impure when he or she touches a corpse or anything dead, eats prohibited food, had involuntary flow of fluids from sexual organs or disease like leprosy. The individual when discovered is alienated from people till he is clean and ritually purified. This is to avoid terminating others. This means that just as impurity can affect people, purity can also affect others; thereby engendering peace and joy to others.

The Psalmist says, “Who shall climb the mountain of the Lord and stand in His holy place? He that has a clean and pure heart” (Psa. 24:3-4).Those who want to worship and serve God and receive His blessings must pursue a pure heart and a righteous life. Clean hands are hands free from external and internal act of sin. Purity is inward holiness, right motives and goals.

Beloved, are you struggling with impure thoughts, pornographies, sexual immoralities, obscene music and videos, immodest dressings and impure relationships? Jesus is the way, then the essence of purity and He asks us to learn from Him. Always receive Holy Communion which helps us to be Holy, read the Bible daily and pray for holiness and purity of heart every day. Be mindful of associations you keep and be useful in the service of the Lord.

Hear, St. John Vianney, “The pure soul is beautiful rose, and the three Divine Persons descend from heaven to inhale its fragrance”.
