    NOVEMBER 23

TOPIC: DO NOT LOVE THE WORLD

    Scripture Reading: 1 John2:15-16

Our reference today says, “Do not have the world or anything that belongs to the world. If you love the world, you do not love the Father. Everything that belongs to the world what the sinful self desires, what the people see and want, and everything in this world that people are so proud of –none of this comes from the Father; it all comes from the world.” (1 Jn.2:15-16). The term, ‘world’ here does not suggest a geographical area, but a set of evil orientations, wrong philosophies, tendencies or teachings of Jesus Christ.

The world in this stead is characterized by all sorts of evil ingenuities. Nothing about the world leads to God, but plunges one into the realm of sin. The mark of this world is chiefly immorality. One ideology that seems most appealing this day is secularism. This means the attempt to remove everything that has to do with God from the surface of the earth and enthrone man at the centre of everything. Our religious articles can no longer be placed in any place outside of the church. This world and all its forms such as sexual immorality, indecency, lust, evil passions, greed, anger, lustful feelings, etc., (Col.3:5-8) are all tools that devil uses to steal God’s children from making the kingdom of heaven.

The love of the world leads to eternal perdition.
Loving this world takes us away from the love of the Father, and it is always against the working of the Holy Spirit. (Rom. 8, Gal 5:). When we love the world, we become slaves of the flesh; which eventually leads to spiritual bankruptcy; spiritual activities such as fasting, abstinence, and prayer become burdensome. The Scripture says, “The one who remains at the human level does not understand the things of the spirit.”

(1 Cor. 2:4). The lot of those who are of the world is that, “…they will not stand their ground when judgment comes, nor will the sinners be admitted into the assembly of the just.” (Ps. 1:5). Saint Francis De Sales says, “The world thinks of evil… let pay no attention to this blind world… let it cry out as much as it will, like an owl, to disturb the birds of the day. Let us be firm in our designs, unswerving in our resolutions; perseverance will make it clear whether it be in good earnest that we have sacrificed ourselves to God, and undertaken the devout life.
