He was so outwardly handsome that he was called, beautiful. He was a bold, talented, and celebrated prince. However, he had some terrible character flaws: he was malicious, crafty, had no regard for his father and harboured hatred for him for many years. He actually conspired with people and led a bloody rebellion against his father.
His name was Absalom, King David's son. Yet, when he died violently in the battle, David wept like a baby saying, "O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!" The depth of a parent's love is unfathomable. According to Beecher, "There is no friendship, no love, like that of the parents for the child." God's command to children is to honour their parents, as seen in our text above. Considering the burden parents bear to nurture and nourish their children to maturity and the associated mental and physical pains they may suffer, children must honour them by obedience, diligence, and good behaviour. Children who are born again can respect their parents. Are you? .
