Daily Strength Catholic Reading and Devotion  NOVEMBER 11 Scripture Reading: 1 Sam. 16: 1-13

Let us continue from yesterday’s reflection. We should not be too quick to forget the event of the anointing of David as the King of Israel. When Samuel got to the house of Jesse, he called out those who where strong and qualified in the eyes of men to take the place of Saul over the kingship of Israel. He must have been aided by Jesse himself who had sent David out into the wilderness with the flock.

In the consideration of Jesse and his house hold, David was weak in age and experienced to man the affairs of the Israelites. But while human begin considered David weak and unqualified, God made him stronger that all including Samuel, had to wait for his arrival before sacrifice was offered.
In our lead verse today, it is not surprising to find David waxing stronger. “The fight between the forces supporting Saul’s family and those supporting David went on for a long time. As David became stronger and stronger, his opponents became weaker and weaker” (2 Sam. 3:1 – Good News Bible). The enmity that Saul had for David lasted to include their households, but in the face of these God made David stronger.

Dear child of God, we have lessons from the life of David. Many a times we are considered weak by others, by our families, by the societies and even by our own selves. Do not be discouraged because David forced the same or even a worse situation. His only remedy was the he had God. In the midst of all the troubles you face in life, is God involved? Get God involved and you will wax stronger like David against all odds because he was a man after God’s own heart. David was a man of praises and as such we are invited to live lives that will bring praises to the name of God.

Again, the enmity between Saul and David continued. Therefore, God is not promising us a life that is free from troubles and tribulations. His promise is to be with us grow stronger like David even in our enemies. The secret is to journey with God always; His presences makes the difference and the only way to be safe is to be with Him because His reports are ever faithful and sure. Let us end today’s reflection with this quote from William Barclay “The tragedy of life and of the worlds is not that men do not know God; the tragedy is that, knowing Him, they still insist on going their own way.”
